Thinking about selling your home?  Here are 3 steps to consider before marketing your home:

1. Do a thorough clean up in and around your house and eliminate any surface clutter possible. Think about it.... any agent you are interviewing who walks into your home is likely seeing it for the first time.  This is really your first "showing" in the process of selling your home.  Your agent’s initial reaction will be a factor in helping determine your home’s value and marketability.  Why not take the time to give them a great first impression?  After all, you're going to want to do the same thing for any prospective buyers so you might as well get in the habit now of presenting their next dream home.

2. Know your competition!  Investigate similar homes for sale and those recently closed to see how yours compares. If you aren't sure where to start, talk to your agent to help share comparable homes in your area.  In fact, if your agent is giving you the best service they should already offer this information to you as you work together to determine sales price and monitor pricing until your home sells.

3. If you don't know a real estate professional yourself, it can be helpful to interview more than 1 agent when deciding who to work with.  Not all agents offer the same service.  Bigger is not always better.  Look for online reviews of agents, ask for a list of their services and why they differ from their competition.  It's often a good idea to meet face to face to get a feel for the person and see if they are a person you can get along with and has the same values and customer service goals.
